About
Dr. Rachel Friedman
Rachel has performed with professional orchestras and music festivals across USA & Europe, most notably as the Assistant Conductor and Principal Violinist with the Missouri Symphony, Conductor in the Jarvi Estonia Conducting Festival, Director of the Missouri Symphony Conservatory, Conductor of Chicago's Merit School of Music Youth Conservatory Orchestra, Violinist in the Austrian Music in the Mountains Conservatory, and as a Violinist in the Knoxville Symphony. Dr. Rachel has taught over a thousand students as a director of youth orchestras and as a private instructor on violin, viola, cello, ukulele, and piano!
Comfortable in many musical and pedagogical styles, Dr. Rachel tailors her lessons to each unique student of any experience level (ages 2-102). Rachel focuses on providing students with a well-rounded musical formation emphasizing a solid rhythm foundation, musicality, music reading, ergonomic (comfortable & relaxed) technique, and, most importantly, musical enjoyment!

PhD in Music Education and Orchestral Conducting
Florida State University
In her doctorate, Dr. Rachel studied Conducting with the Director of Orchestras Dr. Alexander Jimenez and Music Education with the internationally renowned professor Dr. Clifford Madsen. Rachel served as the Assistant Conductor of two FSU Orchestras, Music Director of the Campus Orchestra, and Instructor of Beginning Instrumental Conducting.
2014
Artist Diploma in Violin
University of Tennessee
During her Artist Diploma, Rachel won the Concerto Competition, served as Concertmaster and Assistant Conductor of the University Symphony, and continued performing with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra.
2012
Master's Degree in Orchestral Conducting
Northwestern University
At Northwestern University, Rachel studied with renouned Maestros Victor Yampolsky and Dr. Robert Hasty. While in Chicago, she directed the Merit School of Music's Junior Conservatory Orchestra and freelanced on violin and viola. In the summers, she directed the MOSS Conservatory and performed as principal second violin with the Missouri Symphony Orchestra.

During her studies at the University of Tennessee, Rachel played violin as a member of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, served as the Assistant Conductor of the Missouri Symphony and Conservatory, and founded the Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra!

Lessons may be shared by family members, and students can learn multiple instruments (ex. violin and piano). Quality rental instruments are available. Tuition is handled via Zelle, Venmo, cash, or check either monthly or at each lesson (your choice). Scheduling priority is given to weekly students, and I request at least 24 hours advanced notice of a lesson cancellation. Online lessons are offered on Mondays and most evenings. Currently, I teach in-home lessons in the greater Orlando area, including Winter Park, Winter Garden, Dr. Phillips, Windermere, Millenia, Mt. Dora, Eustis, Belleview, Lady Lake, and The Villages. Lesson times are filling up quickly for the Fall, so please contact me soon to ensure you get a spot!
